Re: [orca-list] Fedora 32 Anaconda GUI not accessible

Hello Nick and all,

Unfortunately, Wayland is not currently fully accessible and we're collaborating to make it accessible.

If GNOME doesn't suit your needs, why not using the Mate Desktop. I'm part of the Mate Contributors and I collaborate to ensure it stays accessible correctly.

Depending on your needs, the Debian Installer is accessible out-of-the-box in Braille, speech and with high contrast for low-vision people. We've an accessibility team in Debian to ensure everything works after installation if installed within accessibility mode.

Best regards.

Thanks for the link.

It seems like as much as people on this list try and fix accessibility issues, the wider Linux community is working even harder to make things less accessible.

Every time I get a new version of Fedora/Gnome there's some kind of worcening of accessibility.

Nautilus, Gnome Control Centre, GDM - all of these have accessibility issues that get worce over time and not better.

Its such a shame as I'm sure most of them would be really quick fixes for one of the core devs on the projects who know their way around the source.

Regards,

Nick

It is not accessible, because it was rewritten to Wayland, if I understand correctly. Bug is reported, but at this time can not be fixed.

Hi,

Thanks for the useful work around.

Does anybody know why its not accessible under Wayland and has anyone logged it as a bug?

Regards,

Nick

Hi,

go to terminal and use passwd to set password for live user. When you
are done, log out an login with Xorg.

Hello,

Not to sound stupid, but how does one do that in a live session?
Googleing it, I find how to do it after install, one method I already
knew about, but I can't find anything on switching during a live
session, pre-install.

Thanks much.

Hi,

from Fedora 30, Anaconda is no more accessible under wayland. If you
want to install Fedora, you need to switch to the Xorg session and
install it from X.

Hi,
I don't remember when was the last time I installed Fedora, but I
remember Anaconda being accessible, and some people complaining it's
inaccessible after that. Did you found some fix? Is it fixable at all?
I tried the text installer from the live session, but the USB flash
drive I'm installing from doesn't count as CD/DVD, and it crashes when
I try to select an ISO from the disk, leaving me hanging.
Have you installed Fedora recently, other than  using Kickstart?
