Re: [orca-list] Vinux Download

Updates definitely were not discouraged in vinux 5. I agree that Vinux was a
great distribution. I really liked the fact that in vinux 5.1, I could
easily switch between Gnome, Mate and Unity. This is when I decided that I
really preferred the Gnome interface.

Even so. Jude. I see that advice still in certain sections of the blind
community,
and there's still a lot of people (in my experience anyhow who are less
tech
savvy and not on the list) who still don't update for fear of breaking
things.
Which is not a good idea given how stable Ubuntu based derivatives are.

However, back in 2016 (IIRC, could be wrong) the whole do not update
advice
was still on their site, when did that change?

hi there,
vinux was greate while it lasted,
since luke yelovich left the project they were unable to build the iso
images etc, and disbanded will miss that distro, it was my first.
i'm going to install debian unstable on a btrfs filesystem snapshots
incase something goes wrong,
ubuntu 20.20 lts will have an option to install using the zfs
filesystem which also has snapshotting capabilities.
a useful application I would erge you all to look at is called
timeshift,
if installed in ubuntu, just a simple
apt install timeshift, it will install the gtk version also,
it is used to make snapshotts of your system,
it can use btrfs, or rsync incase you are say running on ext4.

With Ubuntu due to release 20.04 LTS, is there a chance of a new
Vinux
release?

What will be Orca version and other related accessibility
infrastructure?

Hi All,
I'm trying different distros for my Asus 701 and I'm trying to
download Vinux.
The only download link this page offers is from sourceforge.
https://wiki.vinuxproject.org/home
But the link is broken, and they offer a contact us link if any
links
don't work, and that link does not work either.
Does anyone have a download for Vinux 5.1?
Thanks.
