Hello,
So called aria live regions are specially marked parts of a web page
with some properties added that communicate to screen readers when and
how to report changes within such a region.
In other words it's one of the building blocks web app authors are
getting from browser vs AT vendors for free.
Try out this example page for a test if you like:

Greetings

Hi Joanie,
Are you planning to implement a command to change this option at
runtime? It seems to me that it would be quite useful.
Thanks.

Hey all.
Based on the discussion, here's what I've done:
1. Live regions from inactive tabs are now disabled in Orca master.
2. There is not (yet) a GUI option. As Nolan mentioned, preference
creep is not a good thing. I agree with him.
3. One can override this change via orca-customizations.py by doing
the following:
import orca.settings
orca.settings.presentLiveRegionFromInactiveTab = True
Give it a try and let's go from there.
