I cannot reproduce the second issue. Could you please capture a full 
debug.out from Orca master showing the problem?

Lastly, regarding your suggestion about Escape to cancel searches: I can 
see about doing structural navigation in a separate thread. In the 
meantime, a solution which would be more beneficial across the board is 
to figure out what's taking so long and fix it. Therefore, could you 
please provide me with a test case where it takes 10 or more seconds so 
that I can try to figure out where the performance bottleneck is?
