about installation. today i reinstalled arch. my recommendations.
install mate. i think it is best accessible D E. install mate and
mate-extra i using lightdm as my greeter.
install pulseaudio and pulseaudio-alsa
because arch at the moment transitions to espeak-ng. install
espeak-ng
pkg and overwrite espeak.
don't forget to run spd-config

Hello Orca users/developers,
My previous Linux laptop unfortunately suffered a hardware
failure last
year,
so I've been without a working desktop Linux system for a while.
However,
I've
just installed Arch Linux on my current laptop (dual-booting with
Windows
10
for compatibility with my work environment). The ISO image
announced on
the
list recently worked perfectly.
I have a working text-based installation with BRLTTY and Speakup
running.
Fenrir is installed, but I haven't yet configured it. The next
stage is
to
set
up a graphical environment as well. There have been changes to Linux
desktops
in recent years, including Wayland, and the recent Pipewire
audio/video
routing system that may not be ready for general use yet, but which
looks
promising for moving sound to the correct device under various
scenarios.
In any case, what would be a recommended installation at the
moment by
way
of
a desktop environment and supporting infrastructure?
I'm also interested in Chromium accessibility, including
Chromevox, so
if
anyone has relevant experience with that, I would welcome
suggestions.
Based
on what I've read, it probablyinvolves compilation from source code,
which
I'm
in a position to do - or at least attempt.
The laptop has plenty of memory and a quad-core CPU, so I don't
need to
be
concerned about running a desktop environment designed for older or
less
capable systems.
