Re: [orca-list] Workspaces in Ubuntu Mate

Hi Chris,

To display the current name of the first workspace:
gsettings get org.mate.Marco.workspace-names name-1
To set it to 'Internet":
gsettings set org.mate.Marco.workspace-names name-1 Internet

HTH,

Didier

A friend of mine has told me that I can bind a keyboard shortcut in Ubuntu-Mate which will let me then
rename any of the workspaces on my system. I know by default, I get 4 of them. Alt+CTRL+left, right, up, or
down switches between them, but for the love of God, I cannot figure out where to go to bind that rename
keystroke so it's no longer workspace1 workspace2, etc. I'd rather name them something meaningful like
internet, multi-media, CLI stuff, etc.

Also, where on earth do I go to change the default number of workspaces I get from 4, to say, 6, or
whatever I choose?

I went under system>Preferences, and I do see the option for Windows, but there is nothing in there to do
this, and under keyboard shortcuts, in the windows node when expanded, I see everything and their mother,
but not a way to bind something to rename the workspaces, though my friend who's incredibly a reliable
source swears it can be done, as he/she has done it.

What the hell am I missing!?

Chris.
