Re: [orca-list] Filing bugs?

Hello Christopher,

Could you please be more concise when you're writing a message ? More your message is long, less I read it as I've difficulties to understand why you're told me so many things (maybe I'm a idiot).

You can obtain the version number with the shortcut orca + h to start the learn mode.

Best regards,
Alex.

This is the weirdest thing, Alex, when I do

orca -v

or

orca --version

I get this really really weird error which I've never seen before.

I'm not by my system right now where I can paste it, and I've never ever seen this on the other 3 systems I own, both on the same version of Orca, and the same version of Mate, 18.10. I'll send another message once I get that screne output with the exact message, but the short version of the story is, it's something about gtk widget.css in both height and width not being valid along with a few other things it says.

I was like, WTH?

So, I'm not totally sure what version it is more than to say it's either the most recent update, or the second to most recent.

I'll do another git pull, and rebuild, just in case, but, I'm not sure what's going on.

build-essential is installed, so is python3.6, and also python3.7

Yes, I did run the autogen script with python3.6 from /usr/bin/python3.6

yelp-tools is also installed correctly.

I almost wonder if my GTK isn't bound correctly to python, but if that were the case, I'd not think the main Orca settings window would pop up, which, it does.

I'm starting to think this Asus just has a freaking mind of its own. LOL!

As none of these issues can be reproduced on any of my other systems. This is just wicked weird! Even the friend who'll be left unnamed on this list who normally helps me over the phone when I get weird issues like this, who's also on this list, and is quite advanced of a user is totally totally stumped.

Admittedly, I'm not entirely sure how to go about filing bugs against Orca, and my level right now of expertees is still not the best with browing the web with Orca, so it would be helpful if someone could file this bug for me, then I'll be happy to vote it as stating I can reproduce, if they can give me a link to do so.

Anyway, I'd like to see if any of you in the most recent master branch of Orca can reproduce this.

1. Go into the Orca Settings Window.

2. Go to the General tab

3. Set the keyboard layout combo box to laptop layout

4. Apply settings, then hit OK.

5. Assuming you're using either Mate, or Gnome, which I'm sure most are, hit Alt+F2 to go to the run dialog.

6. Type firefox, all in lower case letters, and hit enter.

7. Once Firefox opens, try to get to its individual Orca settings with caps lock+control+space bar.

Expected results:

The Screen reader settings for Firefox should load.

Actual results:

Absolutely nothing happens.

Now, go back and switch the layhout to desktop, and try again by pressing insert+CTRL+Space. Notice, it works just fine.

Is it possible that somehow this key didn't get bound to anything in the laptop layout, at which point, whoops?

I'm not by a system right now where I can look to find out.

Either way, I feel if this is reproduceable, it needs to be fixed.

In my particular case, Ubuntu Mate 18.10. As I said, most recent master branch Orca.

Chris.
