Re: [orca-list] Best application for making and receiving SIP (VoIP) calls?

Thanks - that probably won't help with my SIP accounts, but I do have iOS devices and will look anyway. I appreciate the suggestion.

Hi Jason,

This probably isn't what you're looking for, but may be useful.
Unsure of the best desktop application, and I gave up looking a while
ago.

However, if you're willing to use an iPhone instead, I can definitely
recommend WhatsApp. It's the best I've found for myself at least, and
I'm as blind as it gets.

No idea how good you already are with the iPhone, but I'll just write
this as if the reader has no experience. Quick cheatsheet:

- First, tell Siri "activate voiceover" to turn voice over on.

- To send a text message, simply tell Siri for example, "send whatsapp
message to George Hey man, what's up?". It will read the message back
to you to ensure it was translated correctly, then just tell Siri to
"send it", and off it goes into cyberspace.

- To read unread messages, just tell Siri, "read notifications"

- To answer or hang up a call, double tap the screen with two fingers

- To access your contacts, tell Siri, "open whatsapp". This will
bring you to a list of contacts ordered by the most recent activity.
Just single tap around for the contact you need, then double tap to
open their profile.

- To call them, once in their profile, both the video and voice call
buttons are up in the top-right of the screen. Just play around with
single taps until voiceover tells you "voice / video call" button,
then double tap it.

- To flip back to the previous screen it's top-left corner (eg.
profile -> chats page)

- If I can't find the contact I want, I just send them a quick message
saying "hi", and the bump up to the top of my contact list so it's
easy to find them.

No idea if that helped anyone or not, but it's what I do for
communication at least.

Matt

Dear Orca users/developers,

What is currently the most accessible option for SIP telephony under
Linux - that is, for making and receiving calls?

I don't mind whether it has a graphical interface (as long as it works
with Orca), or whether it has a console or command line interface.

It has been a while since I've used this type of software under Linux,
so I would gratefully appreciate up to date recommendations. I'm running
recent Orca from Git, with GNOME/Wayland on Arch Linux.
