i have Windows 10 as the host
i was able to reduce lag by changing the virtualbox soundcard type

can anyone tell me what the known issues with Ubuntu?
specifically is anyone seeing any sound lag related to pulseaudio?

I prefer Gnome myself. My current machine is running Ubuntu 16.04 with the Gnome shell. I also have a VM running Ubuntu 18.04. I don't see any lag with eSpeak with either system.

Hi Bart,

yes Mate is really very accessible and fast too.

I have been using it for last 2 years without any qualms.

Before this I always loved Unity, but as they say all good things have their end.

Hi everyone,

I've been away from gnome for some time and am now returning.

I've seen several posts of people moving way from the latest ubuntu not
totally clear on the issues though.

I recall mate used to be the more accessible option, ubuntu mate distro
or another e.g. debian.

Can anyone give me some pointers as to what they feel is best.

I just installed stock ubuntu 19.04 in a vm and am finding terrible lag
with both espeak and voxin. Is this something others have seen or
something specific to my setup?

Any pointers would be gratefully received.

I'm more than happy to build orca from source if that helps.

Kind regards
Bart
