Hi there,
I think there is a way to get one package from the Ubuntu/Debian testing
branch, which could give you the latest brltty.
Otherwise you can download the source:
http://BRLTTY.app/archive/brltty-5.6.tar.bz2
and then install it from source. This is probably not the place for a fullly
detailed list with trouble shooting, but if nothing goes wrong:
tar jxvf brltty-5.6.tar.bz2
cd brltty-5.6
./configure
make
sudo make install
You might have to configure your brltty to see your braille display. I don't
know your particular kind. BRLTTY can handle both USB and bluetooth in
general. To be save, start with USB and make sure that you get it working.
Without further, exact output, I don't know what the "permission denied" is
about. It may be that you shouldn't try to start brltty as a user, since it
tries to connect to parts of your system, which are only free to the system
administrator, called root. Don't worry about it now.
HTH.
Best wishes,
Jeanette
