When I press Ctrl+W Orca doesn't present something to me unless focus is
in the mail pane. (e.g. if I'm in the list of folders, I have to arrow)
Regardless, use Accerciser or an event listener to see what events you
get. Then try it with Thunderbird 52 and see what you get. My guess is
that with Thunderbird 52, you'll get more events including
state-change:focused and focus: events.

Ok, I went ahead and looked at this myself. When I open the schedule
with shift+ctrl+c, I don't get any focus or selection events to tell me
where you are. Ditto for when you close that tab by pressing ctrl+w. We
need these sorts of events so Orca knows that your location has changed
and what it has changed to. Please see about fixing this in Thunderbird.
Thanks for the Joanie, if we don't receive events to indicate changes,
why Orca announces the currently selected item after ctrl+w ? Is it
another event ?
Best regards,
Alex.
