Hello again, I understand your concern, however it seems me that just pressing Alt+F2 then typing orca --replace is even faster. You could even make a an alias in .profile for less typing, like: alias orca="orca --replace" Then just press Alt+F2 and type orca PS According to forecasts I will stay a sixty-nine years old grand-father until February 1st, 2019. Hello all, Thanks a lot for your answers. I know that the desktop specification could be used to deal with auto-start but applications use it to allow to find them, for example Firefox has a desktop file to allow to find it from the "internet" category of the Mate menu or from the research field of GNOME. The paragraphs below are just to explain how and why I open discussion to improve Orca or others software. All the time I try to open a thread about user experience my goal is to spread up the world with software that could help everyone to be empowered in their life without to have to deal with complexity. I would like you think as if your grand-mother became blind at sixty years old and could learn computing with free software in a simple way to increase her autonomous and empower her in her daily life to find information, cook recipes, read her letters with an OCR and many other things. It's the way of thinking I try to have when I think how we could improve software. I hope we could share this goal together to ensure no one will be excluded from technology even with a disability. I just press Ctrl+Alt+D to get to the desktop, then I use my laptop touchpad to click anywhere on the screen. Then I push the * button on my keypad to emulate a right mouse click, which opens the context menus, and allows me to create a new launcher. You need to know the command line argument though (eg. Orca is /usr/bin/orca -reload) Matt On 11/4/18, Alex ARNAUD <alexarnaud hypra fr> wrote:Hello all, Most of the application can be started by menu but it's not possible to find Orca inside the application menu. Also when you try to add an application to startup you can browse the currently installed applications but without desktop file it's no longer possible. See for exempla this issue: https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-control-center/issues/270 (someone pays 100$ for this just because we've drop the desktop file) IMO, we should provide a desktop file to Orca. On Windows, both Jaws, NVDA and the narrator are discoverable by the start menu. I see no reason that make the end-user more happy without desktop file than he is with. I can figure out what commit drop desktop file and tell you if you want.
