Re: [orca-list] Ubuntu VS. Windows

Hello.

I use Linux since 2015 August.

I caught some virus to Windows 7. I reinstalled it with my seeing sister and it was fine for half an hour. During upgrades, it failed and I had to reinstall again. I was really angry and wanted to broke my computer and drop it from closed window, but my friend Libor gave me Ubuntu 14.04. Now, I use Vinux 5.1, or Accessible coconut and I am comfortable with it. No viruses, no system crashing. That's my oppinion. But it's correct, some people wants applications, which are inaccessible in Linux. I use Linux only and use it only.

Best regards

Vojta.

I partially agree with this, but would firmly add that there is no black and white.

Firstly different people have different requirements and for those who wish to use spreadsheets, surf the internet, write emails and a few more things including audacity usage, Orca is just fine.

Some people have such requirements that unfortunately the software on linux for that purpose is inaccessable (as a professional I don't have such a situation ).

Even more precisely some people have different requirements from a single program.

Depending on features that are accessible or not, the person may decided to use Linux or not use it or partially use it.

So all in all for basic to intermediate usage Linux is absolutely fine.

happy hacking.

Hi,
I believe that I have found more programs in Linux that don't work well with Orca, than I have using Jaws or NVDA in Windows. I have always felt that if Orca worked as well as Jaws, I'd go Linux and never look back. There no doubt a few reverse cases, such as the radio programming software called Chirp. It works fabulously in Linux with Orca, but it is very difficult in Windows, such that some would call it inaccessible in Windows, although I have muddled through it using the Jaws cursor.

Hi,

How does Ubuntu/Fedora accessibility compare to Windows 10 and JAWS/NVDA? Do
not consider monitary cost.
