Re: [orca-list] Apology, was: RE: Dear God, I hope this isn't true!

Kyle,

Thanks for that link. I didn’t realize that the link I provided wasn’t the official repo, so again, my apologies. I guess then, my question stands irrellavant, and I am sorry for ever posting. I’m an idiot. Face the reality.

Chris.

Chris and all,

OK. To clear things up, ...

Yes, Microsoft is acquiring Github for 7.5 billion dollars.

https://news.microsoft.com/2018/06/04/microsoft-to-acquire-github-for-7-5-billion/

This is copied from DuckDuckGo, and there are plenty of other sources of this information. But it can't get much more official than coming directly from the pig's rear.

No, this does not affect Orca or Linux accessibility in any way at all, because Orca's official git repository is at gitlab.gnome.org, which is a Gitlab instance hosted by the GNOME project itself, and is unrelated to Github.

I believe much of the confusion stems from this segment of the message that started this specific thread:

"

Why do you think when we want to download them, we use git, and we git clone, like this:

git clone https://github.com/gnome/orca'"
Please note that the Github link, as was mentioned on the original thread on this topic, is *not* the official git repository for Orca, nor is it even acknowledged as an official mirror by the GNOME project, Joanie or anyone else affiliated with Orca. When cloning Orca, please use
git clone https://gitlab.gnome.org/gnome/orca
as this is the official repository, and is always kept up-to-date. I hope this clears up all remaining confusion. This will likely be my last post on this topic, which should now be able to be relegated to file 13 due to its OTedness.
