Just did a git pull, will package && test it now and report my findings
(if any, knowing that I am a distribution maintainer, not a "real"
user thus can just say if something looks badly broken).

Meanwhile, if I may... I will bring again to your and Samuel's attention
the issue with variants as it seems me to be a major one, preventing
to practically use variants for voices provided in many languages and
variants.

As an aside I just realized the Samuel had opened a related issue
against speech dispatcher:

I am sorry to insist and feel shameful to request a fix and not being
able to provide one, but that's the situation.

I have nothing against naming the new field in the Voices tab of the
GUI "languages". It could go between the combo boxes labeled 
"Speech synthesizer"
and
"Person"
