Paulina, will try it out - see it lets me search for packages, etc. as
well - very helpful.
Just going to play around with interface to make sure am handling it
right in terms of choosing which packages to install, and then
initiating download/installation - think have got it, but, will play
around a bit.
Stay well

Hello Jacob and everybody,
I think that Synaptic
sudo apt-get install synaptic
may be good for you. When you launch this program, you choose category
of program, and browse programs in table. To go to next program, press
down-arrow, to go to next data of program, press right-arrow. You may
sort programs, search, install, fix, update and remove. Synaptic is
the best!
In my view, VLCMedia Player
sudo apt-get install vl
c
may be good to play films, CDs and sounds. This program is highly
customizable. If you preffere minimalistic program to listen sounds,
choose audacious
sudo apt-get install audacious.
Thunderbird is good email client. You maybe know it from Windows.
sudo apt-get install thunderbird
Caution: Perhaps you will have thunderbird in English version. I had
Thunderbird installed by default on my Ubuntu, I reinstalled it, and I
have English thunderbird. I don't found good text editor and pdf
reader and IRC client. If you are interested in this programs, I can
announce you, when I find some program.
Greetings,
Paulina
