Orca users, meet Uruk 2.0 Beta 2.
This is a fully-lebre, GNU Linux distro, using Mate desktop and
packages from Trisquel 8.0, Linux-libre LTS Kernel, the gcc ppa,
and its own repository. I've been running it on my little netbook
for about a week. The orca speech integration is what one would
expect from Mate 1.12 and Orca 3.18-- good enough for my needs on
this machine.
The items on the standard top menus are combined onto one pull-down, accessed with a press of "alt+f1". The desktop has the "usual suspects", plus a script with which to instll the GNU Guix package manager on top of the apt. I haven't done anything with this yet, but it looks like it will allow easy updating to later packages and roll-back, if things end up broken. That's my brief story on this, now, see below, for a bit from the original release announcement. I'd like others to try this and communicate with the project leads, one of whom is blind, I think, on your experience. I like it, so far, and think it's almost ready. My concern is that its sources come, mainly, from Trisquel 8.0, which is not yet out, and appears to have stagnated. I know they aim for a stable release, but maybe should use Debian stable as the base? Maybe integrating this Guix can help, here? The Linux-Libre kernel is maintained (lts and rolling).
