I got mimic working. The package appears to have lots of keyboard
latency, but speech quality is no problem to understand.

Hi,
I'm reviving a very old thread (just found this message while cleaning out my
inbox), but I took a look at the git repository and found that the most
recent commit is from about a month ago. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone
has tried it and, if so, how it compares to espeak-ng--I wonder if it would
be worth writing a speech-dispatcher driver for it (presumably, the flite
driver could be used as a starting point). I might give it a try if/when I
can get it to build (it seems to want a different version of pcre than the
one I have installed at the moment).

The developers seem to be striving to achieve a high quality of speech. It
isn't clear what the differences from Festival Lite (Flite) are, but this
project may be worth watching.
