If there's an option to disable the kernel's video driver, you could try it,
but I suspect the result would be that X fails to run altogether. You can
configure it to use the dummy driver in /etc/X11/Xorg.conf (or whatever it's
now called). However, you first need a working text-based installation in
which you can edit the Xorg configuration file.
