I use eclipse to develop java apps and it seems that there are no problems.

You need to instruct eclipse to use gtk 2.

To do this you need to change eclipse.ini file and the location of this file depends on how eclipse was packaged. In my installation it is located in /usr/lib/eclipse.

Edit eclipse.ini and look for the following lines:

--launcher.defaultAction
openFile
--launcher.appendVmargs

Include the folowing lines:

--launcher.GTK_version
2

I am pasting the content of my eclipse.ini:
