I did not see the original messages, but I think this is a known issue
with brltty and brlapi.
Here is the solution at least for archlinux.
Here is what you need to do to fix brltty in ArchLinux.
edit the brltty.conf file which is located in /etc
on about line #591 you need to uncomment the line that reads:
api-parameters Auth=keyfile:/etc/brlapi.key # Require authentication
key
Note, this should be on one line.
Then restart brltty sudo systemctl restart brltty
This should make orca work again.
/etc/brlapi.key must exist, though, and be readable by the user running
orca

On my system those packages are installed:

Yep.
braille display access via BRLTTY - shared library
ii python3-brlapi 5.2~20141018-5
amd64
Quite possible
Braille display access via BRLTTY - Python3 bindings
ii xbrlapi 5.4-7~bpo8+1
amd64
And again quite possible
Orca doesn't complain and I have installed everything that was possible
to install along with Orca to make it as happy as it can be. What more
can I say? I can look through the Pyton library folders, but that's
about it.
Best wishes,
Jeanette
