Hello,
Yes this is also happening for me however it may happen just anywhere
e.g. in firefox, in thunderbird, in libreoffice calc.
Most frequently it happens to me when switching windows by pressing alt+tab.
As I press alt+tab I'm expecting to hear orca announcing new window as
it gains the focus.
Instead I hear silence, my laptop fan speeds up like crazy. I know I can
quickly open terminal and type in orca --replace .
Sometimes I can't manage to do orca --replace in the terminal quick
enough so the whole graphical desktop gets non responsive that even
pressing multimedia keys will stop producing sounds while pressed.
In such a case I can either login to the text only console and try to
force killing orca or use a spare machine to SSH in and examine the
state from there.
Heh my portable raspberry pi setup proven to be awesome at rescuing me
in such cases. If I am doing something critical and my desktop freezes
like this, I can boot the pi in a minute, tidy up hang processes and
continue as normal.
Greetings
Peter

Hi Kendell,
I know it's eating CPU because the fan on my PC goes nuts. I have no
usable sight so don't know whats actually happening on screen.
However, if I use another PC to SSH into the machine I can see Orca
using all the CPU. If I kill Orca remotely, I can then go back to the
actual machine and get Orca back up with Alt+Super+S.

Nick

hi
It could be an orca issue, but it could not be. Joanie will know for
sure once she has time to look into this, I think she's asleep at the
moment. I haven't noticed the cpu usage, but I depend so much on orca
that if it stops speaking my first task is to get it back so I can use
my computer. I'm guessing you can see enough to notice though? I've seen
very high cpu usage from orca in applications like seamonkey and
firefox. I can't remember if joanie made some changes to fix it or if
she just suggested closing the apps. Actually, I think it was high
memory and cpu usage, but I can't remember for sure.
Thanks

Hi Kendell,
Yes, happens with Leafpad, though in my case its more like Orca gets
itself hung up in an endless loop that uses up the CPU and makes the
system unresponsive.
I'm not sure which desktop environment Leafpad comes from - I use it
on Fedora because its a nice fast text editor, and for my purposes it
was a lot more responsive than gedit.
I have two Fedora installations, both running Orca master. One is
Fedora 22, the other Fedora 23. Issue only happens on Fedora 23,
which makes me think its not directly an Orca issue but maybe a
component elsewhere (ATSPI?)

It happens with leafpad as well? I've used it before, isn't that the
text editor for ... is it xfce?
Thanks

Hi,
I have a similar issue with the text editor Leafpad.
Sometimes when closing Leafpad, Orca stops speaking. I don't
think it
crashes, but it seems to go into some kind of loop where it uses up
all available CPU.
I have to kill Orca at the console and then restart it, and all is
well.
Unfortunately I can't reproduce it every time and as yet I haven't
found a specific pattern that causes it, which is why I haven't
reported it previously.

Nick

hi list
THis is an odd bug. It doesn't happen all the time and I can't
seem to
find a set of steps to make it happen, but seemingly randomly, orca
will
close and stop speaking after closing pluma. This only happens with
pluma, the mate text editor, and not gedit or any other. I'm not
completely sure if it segfaults, but speech doesn't come back, and
I've
waited up to five minutes. To get it back I have to run
orca--replace in
the command dialog. Using the shortcut for some reason doesn't work.
This is using orca master, completely up to date as of fifteen
minutes
ago, on sonar linux mate edition. Can anyone else confirm this? I
believe this happens on stable as well. Again it's not constant.
Joanie,
I believe you can test this one in fedora because pluma is
available in
the repositories.
Thanks
