Re: [orca-list] Recording radio streamming on a mp3 or wave file

HI,

awhile ago I notice on this list:

parec -d > recording.wav
gst-launch pulsesrc device=1 ! autoaudiosink
gst-launch pulsesrc device=1 ! wavenc ! filesink location=output.wav

There is an excellent extension for recording audio and video called video
download helper, and many others that do similar things, but are mostly not

quite as good.
For actual streams in some cases they can be recorded, others are not cached
precisely to avoid this.
Better than using your browser however is to open the stream in something
like mplayer if you want to do this from the console, or still more flexible

is streamripper
In mplayer you use the dumpstream option, and there are a couple more that
will just get audio or video from streams if tyou do not want the whole
thing.
Here is a sample command to record to a file called stream.dump
mplayer -quiet -dumpstream http://kpcclive1.publicradio.org:80
Add -dumpfile sstation.mp3 on to a command like the one shown above and you
save the stream to station.mp3 or what ever y ou call the file.
You can start mplayer or another audio player to listen as the stream is
being recorded if you wish as well.
Streamripper is more elegant, auto naming files, letting you configure a
rebroadcast server so that computers can listen remotely, and set recording

times.
I wrote a script that preconfigures much of this, and saves you from having
to remember and type a bunch of options and use correct syntax.
I don't remember if I finished it to where I want it to be, but it works
very well/need to put it on this machine ctually...lol
The commands for mplayer are a bit different if you launch the stream from a
playlist file.
Also you use the -playlist option if the link you copy from the browser is
to a playlilst url instead of just a straight stream.
'mplayer -playlist http://bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live_wmt/r4.asx quiet
As you see the -quiet can go at the end or beginning, think I need to update
that url...lol.
You can add the dumpstream option of course.
Let me know if you want my streamripper script and I'll send it along. It
uses a configuration file, and I don't think I have written an installer for

it yet, but it'd just be a matter of copying a couple of files in to place
and editing one or two lines in the config file to suit your needs.

Hello all,

Some time ago, here, it was said how to record sound from a radio
playing on soundcard. However, I was not able to find it.

For example, I open the Firefox and look for BBC world service. I
access a link and the radio starts to play.

Now I want to capture the coming sound storing it in a mp3 or wave file

Does some one knows how to do it easily? Are there tools to do it by
console commands?

Regards,
