Right. However Mate has unique customization features as you can set the
size, font, colour of GTK widgets, it's no longer possible on ot:er
modern desktops, where themes, wallpapers, are in css impossible to

I don't know but I think magnification is related to gnome-shell, not gtk3.

It is, now. Latest release fixes this problam.

Not really. Still maintained for at least 10 years in Canonical's repo.
Later, we'll see, but Hypra could maintain if still needed for
magnification and to make compatible flexibility and visual effects.
