Re: [orca-list] removing pulse audio. will this work?

Yes, see my message mention of dmix.
You must have alsa with pulse anyway.
It is only a matter of running a few commands, i.e. installing and removing packages, and then changing your
speech dispatcher configuratiopn to use
alsa instead of pulse/did this on debian once just to see if it'd work.
I am not sure what you mean by installing file systems.
There is nothing to do with your file system, that needs to be changed whether you use pulse or alsa.
I meant you could install a distro like Arch or yes, Debian that have minimalist instllation options where
you pick your packages and or package groups
to install during the initial installation process.
This would be the debian net install or the normal arch or talking-arch images. Gentoo also has such a thing.
Debian and Arch are the two distros that make it easy to do this kind of thing with speech with out having to
work silently for a bit, and gentoo
should, but not worked for me the time I tried.
Back to dmix, there is an entry on this on the arch wiki. Basically it defaults to using alsa dn lets you use
pulse.
The package storm mentions may well be an excellent alternative, andone of these days I'll certainly try it,
but unlike him, I and many other people hve
no history of trouble with pulse. In my case there was one exception when I was working on setting up an
accessible linux on a sony highend netbook.
Pulse crashed often enough that I scripted the replace ment of the corrupted pulse configuration
directory...lol
Without any speical programs I find recording on Linux indeed easier and more reliable than it was the few
times I tried on Windows.
Get sox for sure if you are going to do anything in the way of recording or manipulation of sound files.

How hard will it be for me to remove pulse from debian?
I Think that it is very hard to set up file systems by myself. I've
tried that, and no sucsess at all.
or is it possible to have both pulse and alsa installed at the same time?

Hi.
I want to use alsa instead of pulse audio.
I found the following about removing pulse audio. do you Think this will
work?
http://www.hecticgeek.com/2012/01/how-to-remove-pulseaudio-use-alsa-ubuntu-linux/
I also found information on hardware monitoring when recording stuff,
and hearing the microphone.
So now it will perhaps be easy to record and do some Linux podcasts.
easier than in windows:)
