the xmpp facebook for pidgin does not work at all, not for anyone I have heard of anymore.
Bitlbee has a new plugin made by the same person who makes the pidgin plugin. I have been having successful connections now again with the
purple-facebook plugin, see a post from a while back regarding a repo for ubuntu and friends, and it's in the arch linux aur.
These plug-ins use the FB mobile api it seems as facebook has disabled the good support they had for stand alone desktop apps.
