Hello,
One other very cool communication tool along with a brand new protocol
and a whole ecosystem is called matrix http://www.matrix.org/ .
It has nice accessible android client and on the desktop it can
currently be used as a wee chat plugin or through some of its web client
e.g. http://matrix.org/beta/ https://vector.im .
Desktop client is also planned however that is not yet available to public.
It features irc style chatrooms, one to one conversations including
audio and video chats, video messaging, message attachments e.g. photos,
message receipts, chatroom user list, power levels.
On a technical level it's hoping to become an open-standard even
supporting federation the similar way email messaging works i.e. you can
run your own matrix server. Additionally group audio and video
conversation is currently supported within vector.im web client and
should land in other clients soon.
There are various neat things coming up e.g. bridges to other social
networks and services. IRC bridge is in a late beta, XMPP bridge is in
an early development and various other very exciting stuff.
So if you are into things like this I definatelly recomend to take a
look and try it out. Accessibility wise it is working fine with some
little quirks here and there, however the whole crew behind is really
hoping for awesome accessibility support, they are happy to address
accessibility issues, they appreciate hints, code examples even patches
when it comes to this.
If you need someone to try this out with you can chat to me at
@pvagner:pvagner.tk.
p.s. http://tox.chat is other cool project even technically closer to
skype. However tox is severelly failing in accessibility. Unfortunatelly
there is no accessible up to date tox client I know of.
Greetings
Peter
