Re: [orca-list] Breaking up Key Echo types. Where does space go?

Hey José.

I don't understand. With the exception of space, "Alphanumeric and
Punctuation" is the same as "Alphabetic" plus "Numeric" plus
"Punctuation". So if in old Orca you had the "Alphanumeric and
Punctuation" checkbox checked, you will want to check all three of the
new checkboxes. If, on the other hand, in old Orca you had the
"Alphanumeric and Punctuation" checkbox unchecked, you will want to
uncheck all three of the new checkboxes.

Right now, space is special as other messages in the thread indicate. It
is at this moment an "action" key in Orca master. At least Attila seems
to think it should be treated differently, so I may create a fourth
checkbox for "space". Then "Alphanumeric and Punctuation" would be the
same as the four combined checkboxes.

Long way of saying the following: The goal is for people who want to
have the old behavior able to have it. There are just different
checkboxes now. And if what I stated is not what you're finding, then
it's probably a bug and I need a very concrete example of what is not
working as you expect.

Thanks!

Hi Joanie.
I like to hear the characters while I'm typing .
So I prefer the previous behavior.
Thanks.

Hey all.

In response to a couple of feature requests, I'm breaking up the current
"alphanumeric and punctuation" echo into three types:

* Alphabetical
* Numeric
* Punctuation

Right now, space is being echoed as part of alphanumeric and punctuation
even though technically a space is neither alphanumeric nor punctuation.
The rationale for space being included there was that alphanumeric and
punctuation were printable characters and space is also printable. With
this new division into three classes, I'm having a harder time
justifying inclusion of space in any of the above. So where do you think
it belongs?

I myself am leaning towards "action," which may also be a stretch.
However, Tab and Return are echoed as part of action because they are
action keys in the context of GUI widgets. And in a GUI, Space does
activate certain widgets. Plus, when Tab and Return are used in
multiline editable widgets, they insert whitespace, just like the space
key does. So... Space is an action key, right? <grins>

Silliness aside, please tell me where you want space to go with respect
to this new division of key echo types.

Thanks!
