Anyway the problem seems to be in all versions (more or less frequent).
Thanks for the confirmation.
Would nice to know why this is happening, and if we can make any fix
from Thunderbird script.
As for why it is happening, see these two bugs:
* Significant lag with high cpu changing selection when arrowing over
mail folders with many messages
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=924915
* The at-spi2 cache forces creation of full accessible tree
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=650090
The problem is when Thunderbird is loading, if you load it before Orca
then launch Orca no problem.
If Orca is not running, then AT-SPI2 probably doesn't have any assistive
technologies registered and listening for events. And if nothing is
registered and listening for events, then Thunderbird presumably won't
emit a children-changed:add event and AT-SPI2 presumably won't be
caching the entire tree with your thousands of messages each one of
which has probably 5 or more columns' worth of cells. (See comment 29 of
the Mozilla bug.)
I'll see if I can figure out why Thunderbird continues to seem
non-responsive or defunct to Orca. But the problem really needs to be
fixed in either Thunderbird and/or AT-SPI2.
