For what you have in mind, I would go with if you can get away without uefi. It uses a root accout and doesn't make everyone a sudoer. Ubuntu is awesome but it has access to Steam. Also, Debian has Debian junior.

same for me. I want my 8 year old son I just set up a distro that has lots of age appropriate games but yet the distro has to be accessible for me pretty much just work so he can play games watch netflix in chrome tv on the xfinity comcast site with flash and some stuff on youtube. oh and when he gets older it should be then powerful enough to still serve him by letting him write and print research papers and do math and powerpoints so he can do his schoolwork in something that acts sort of like word and is also a gui and easy to use.

I recommend using a different distributor.  That person does not have your convenience as a customer as his priority.  Only one of those will work with Orca without hastles.  Even then, you will most likely run into trouble down the road if you go and buy something you want to connect to it like a scanner, a printer, Bluetooth keyboard  or something like that because it will probably have bad hardware support.  If you are new to Linux, you are probably unfamiliar with the process of hunting down a driver and enabling it in your kernel.  It’s a royal pain.  If you want a pre-installed distro, go with the fellow that sells Ubuntu.  It’s accessible, user-friendly and does not limit you as much in what kind of hardware you can install.  If you want to go the Free/Libre route, wait till you have some more familiarity with Linux down in the guts of the thing and then switch your distribution at that time.  Otherwise, you may encounter some frustration down the road.  When you are learning something, you want it to work reliably so you don’t spend half your time wondering if you should be fixing something and the other half split between doing it and learning how to use it.
