Re: [orca-list] Your thoughts on item position and count in menus?

Hello,
I am a bit surprised almost no one is liking reset counter on seperator. This is how NVDA works on windows so at least people who originally converted from windows to linux might be used to this kind of presentation. I am one of these converted people however I don't have strong preference when it comes to this menu item counts.

Greetings

Peter

hi
I think the current behavior is correct. However, this brings up menus
which don't report their item lists correctly, such as some menus in
gnome itself. The menus that pop open in nautilus, for example, when
you right click an item are different depending on what type of item
that is, so different options are hidden. Orca seems to skip over the
hidden idems rather than announcing them and then saying "grayed" or
"unavailable". The menu count is correct, but orca will, for example
go from saying open control+o. 1 of 10 to copy. 4 of 10. What happened
to 2 and 3? If I use flat review, depending on the menu I might come
across a couple of separators, which I think orca should skip since
it's a visual thing, but occasionally I come across a grayed out menu
item. Shouldn't orca present those?
I'm smart enough to figure it out and get on with it, but new users
... I don't know. Thanks

Hi Zahari.

Thanks for your reply! I hope you don't mind my passing it along to
the list so that we can get everyone's feedback in one place.

Hi, What Orca presents currently is correct. If you treet those
different sections of a menu as a different menus that would leed
only to a confusion.

Best wishes, Zahari
