If it is anything like the Windows version of Vmware, what you will have to do is change the setting that 
takes you back to the host operating system. You need to make sure that you use altcontrol shift and not just 
altcontrol. Once you change the setting, control alt F1 will work as expected. Within the guest operating 
system.
