Derek, you would have to compile a custom kernel for speakup to work.
When I last tried it, it would not compile cleanly because of some patches RedHat made to the kernel. I have found it just as easy to use a machine running Debian or arch and ssh into the host.
I use the kickstart facility for un-attended installs and it works fine.
I manage a couple dozen Redhat/CentOS servers this way.
