You might've tried this already, but try hitting, I believe it's set
to control+alt+d to set focus to the desktop. I've rebound it to
windows+d on my system. ON my system, I get a significant delay,
somewhere between two and 10 seconds between that keystroke and orca
saying "desktop frame. Icon view layored pane 0 items." NO idea what
causes the lag, but it's not there in gnome, or not as noticeable, at
any rate.
I can't wait until joanie has time to work on mate. It's awesome now,
but it'll be even greater once it gets some love only a developer who
knows her stuff can give it.
