Re: [orca-list] Question concerning documentation

I certainly also agree that a centralized location for such information would be excellent.
There's certain no advantage for each distro to repeat this effort, and it's hardly ideal to have to do a
google search for mailing list posts which is
mostly what I find when I'm looking for accessible applications information, that or a google group that is
not even usable with a textbased browser.
(Yeah, I use surfraw and a dinosaur browser for most basic research and take advantage of the much improved
firefox support for more interactive
situations mostly...smile.)
It would ideally have a small team to set general initial standards/organization, i.e. would we have a star
system, or a label system say an app could
be rated fully accessible, mostly accessible somewhat usable or inaccessible. Would user reviews be part of
this etc?
I vote for a clean system, i.e. no need to scroll through pages of verbos reviews and comments, but reviews
and or mini tutorials as to any
accessibility tricks needed to successfully navigate an app could be linked to. Links to bug trackers should
also exist, so this would require a bit of
thought to make the easiest to use site.
I have limited experience with pmwiki and docuwiki, and either is very easy to use, takes about 15 minutes of
reading and another few minutes of
practice to get started as long as one is not going to be making fancy tables or use extensions, recipes,
etc., so one does not need to worry about
having to learn something complex.
If you can write clearly, have experience navigating webpages with a screenreader, or are willing to
proffread you can help.
I've got no working experience with markdown, but I've looked at it, and while it'd take more time than one
of the major wiki "languages" to learn it's
hardly rocket science. Usually one can use html in wikis also, so if you know how to write that that might
even be enough to take thoughts straight to
the wiki.
So, yes, you can count me in for some help with this.

hi
I second this. You can of course try apps by trial and error to see if
an app is accessible, but then you have to send a mail to this list
asking if an app is accessible and/or saying application x or y isn't
accessible. I'm working on a bug filing campaign to identify
inaccessible apps, and file bugs against them. Joanie has agreed to
help me get proficient at bug writing and I'm jsut getting started,
but if we set up an accessible applications page somewhere, I could
add to it bugs with particular applications. There should also be a
section on accessible toolkits, EG wx widgets, qt, gtk, because
sometimes an issue is caused by incomplete or inaccurate accessibility
support in a toolkit which can affect an entire range of applications.
I know basic markdown, so might be able to do basic wiki editing, but
if this ever gets off the ground I'll of course get more involved.
What language would be used? dokuwiki, markdown, etc?
Thanks

Hello all,

is there any replacement for the old "accessible applications" page
we had on the orca page at the gnome wiki previously? Any central
location where such information could be shared (besides this list
of course :) ) ? I didn't find something like this in the stable
manual at gnome.org (which is linked at the end of these orca-list
mails, but the stable version). Well, there are lots of information
all over the internet, but having such information like the
accessible apps section at a central orca site would be very
helpful i think.

I'd really apreciate to have such a wiki page or similar again.
What do you think? Also i'd like to offer help in setting up such a
page again if we want to have one.. But maybe i just missed
something and there is allready a page like this...
