I believe I have fixed your Thunderbird issue.

I also committed a workaround for the gnome-shell/clutter issue you
reported. With respect to the latter, even if you have character echo
enabled, Orca will not attempt to echo characters for gnome-shell.
Instead it will fallback on key echo. Given that in the run dialog you
are likely not inserting accented letters, this fallback should suffice
until the bug is fixed.

2. Launch TB and create a new message.

3. In The compose area type some text.

In my machine orca double speak each character that is typed.

I didn't find this behavior in other applications.
