Hello,
The issue with such alert type messages not being spoken while using
gmail in Firefox with Orca might most likelly mean orca is not correctly
picking aria live regions found in gmail. A little while ago I have
reported a similar case that such an alert message is not anounced after
opening a gmail conversation.
Unfortunatelly I have found another case where orca is not properly
handling such a rich list. It's in the gmail contacts. When that list of
contacts gets keyboard focus orca does not switch into focus mode and
unfortunatelly even when it's being switched to focus mode manually it
does report nothing while trying to use arrow keys. I need to play more
with this because I am not sure this is a gmail issue or an orca issue.
Greetings
Peter

I'm not sitting here comparing Orca with NVDA but I know similar

I've not looked into it yet, but I suspect you're correct about it being
an instance of the new stuff not working quite right. In particular,
there's probably some proper ARIA being done by Google which Orca is not
properly handling. If that is indeed the case I'll try to fix this ASAP.
Maybe even today.
I know this is reletively new to Orca so is off to an excellent start.
Thank you for saying so. Once I finally finish the sad-hack detanglement
and removal, I'll give more dedicated attention to Orca's Gecko web app
support -- and also implement caret navigation support in Epiphany so
that Orca users will have a proper choice in which the user experience
is (expected to be) the same. In the meantime, I am quite pleased to
know what is currently in place doesn't suck too badly. <smiles>
Thanks again. Take care.
