Re: [orca-list] cannot seem to access applications run with pkexec

I know this behavior has been known/typical behavior for gparted on XFCE, and some other desktops, fluxbox
for one.
Actually, there are options in gksu, -w I do believe it is, that allow you say whether to run as the root
user, i.e.
require the root PW or elevate privilidges like with standard sudo configuration, i.e. ask for the user's PW.
I'm thinking maybe on Ubuntu with Mate I did not need the root PW, but can't easiily test at the moment to be
sure.
No matter what though, I've had to use gksu one way or another instead of pol-kit on everytrhing but gnome
and Unity, i.e.
the default polkit command in the exec line of the .desktop file does not give speech, and although gparted
will start
using the user PW, orca can't seem to read it.

I selected to not ask for the password in XFCE, and it works fine, even though I've only entered the user PW
when opening
the keyring, for Dropbox I think it is.
I think the same is true for mate, but will have to double check.
OK, just checked fluxbox, and as it doesn't autostart the keyring when it launches, at least I do not
explicitly
configure this, and think when I checked it wasn't running untiill something called for a PW, I do have to
type the
password when launching gparted. The root PW does _NOT work, must use my user password.
I'll have to check to see if XFCE is now wanting the user password, or if it's still asking for the root cred.
I'll do a couple of tests later, or intend to. Please remind me if you have not seen a followup to this as I
most likely
forgot.

hi all
I've noticed a strange issue that I'm not sure is orca related. If I
run, for example, pkexec gparted, to run the gparted partition editor,
orca can't seem to get access to gparted. If I run it via gksu,
sometimes I can get access to it and sometimes I cannot. Is pkexec
doing something weird to keep orca from being able to look at
applications being run as root? In case I'm being too geeky, pkexec is
what is run when you want to rum something and supply your user
password, policykit. Gksu requires the root pw to run something. I'm
not sure how to fix this, or to help. Would providing a debug.out file
help? I'm running orca from master, but I'm almost sure this will
happen with orca stable as well

If it helps, I'm running manjaro with mate 1.8.1
Thanks
