[orca-list] gedit 3.12 and accessability with orca

I have used&loved gedit for as long as I've used Linux&found it to have had very well organized menus.
Well, the recent update to 3.12 has thrown me for a loop. I have not spent long trying to find less than
obvious controls, but so far have found almost nothing, i.e. I can't even find out where the time&date item
is that I had in edit. This goes for most everything. If I can't do it with a keyboard shortcut, I almost
can't do it.
Perhaps something's amiss because I mostly use xfce as my desktop in Arch, and mate is the other one I'm
experimenting with.
Are there any tips or tricks to get at all the old menu items, or is this another gnome attempt to out apple
apple and tell us what we really need to do and use?...(only joking, do not send virtual bullets my way)
If there are actual major accessibility issues, or if one can only access all controls if one uses gnome 3 as
one's desktop then does anyone know if there's any reason that one can't roll back to gedit 3.10.x, i.e. does
gedit depend on anything else that has changed that I may have missed? (still may be able to roll back of
course, but just trying to pick brains for user experiences)
Thanks much if you've read this far, and please excuse me for possibly going a bit off-topic.
Regards,
