[orca-list] Orca in Ubuntu 14.04 Unity

Hi,
I had some problems with the speech, sometimes all of a sudden it talks so fast I could not understand a word. But after orca --replace it behaves well. So the update-manager is doing well. The only thing I met so far is that the Dash is unaccessible. Hopefully this can be solved in the near future.

My update manager seems quite accessible, actually. Not sure what others
are finding in it that is inaccessible. If, however, you are someone
encountering this issue, remember that you can always update from the cli
like this:

Sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade

Or:

Sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

You will always get a list of what will be updated which you will need to
approve. Another command you may find useful is this:

sudo aptitude full-release-upgrade

Please note that this assumes you have installed aptitude which is quite a
nice bit of software really:

sudo apt-get install aptitude

Apart from the dash (super key ) every thing else is seemingly good, I think
there was a complaint about Update manager not being accessible.
Happy hacking.

Hi John,
Super ALT S toggles the screen reader.
This may help as a starting place.

When I type orca I get the message that it cannot connect to the desktop.
What has to be done? Where can I find a list of keyboard shortcuts
for this version of Ubuntu?

Thanks,
John
