And there is the gnome extension for opening apps with numbers, it is
called app keys or something like that.
You have to edit the metadata file to make it compatible with the latest
Gnome, but it works, just google for it.
I am missing HUD from Unity.

You can open a usb pin drive from the nautilus desktop. Just set it
up using gnome-tweaks.

Hi all,
Now I feel pretty comfortable with gnome-shell.
Except that I am still missing that direct access to favorites and
also the super + number for directly opening apps from favorite.
Would have been even happy if the pen drive or usb hard disk could
directly open up as happens in Unity.
Happy hacking.

Hi list,
I'm curious how you got the dash working. When I press the super key, I
can read the available lenses, but can not read any results after
performing a search. For example, let's say that I am looking for
Firefox. I press the super key and in the edit box type Firefox. When I
press down arrow, I hear applications panel. When I press down arrow
again, I hear nothing. At first, I thought that I might have had some
bad settings left over from 13.10. So, in an effort to troubleshoot the
problem, I set up a fresh install of 14.04 in Virtual box. On the
Virtual box install, I am having the same problem.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Ah, if the dash was an issue, I am too happy to note that 14.04 has it
accessible out of the box.
I pressed alt and f1 and could smoothly go through the menu options.
Also the top panel notifications were being spoken.
Regarding, Gnome, I would be interested to know from more users.
happy hacking.

hi,
i tried it a few days ago and i think they still have the issues with
the dash.
its still not accessible. and this since many versions of ubuntu!
but gnome is pretty accessible.
notifications seem to be not spoken but this seems to be the least
problem with gnome.
though can be a problem with more useful notifications like no
connection or something.
but maybe this can be fixed somehow.

Dear all,
I am wondering if Ubuntu-gnome is the only option for serious use of
latest Orca.
What I mean to ask is if Ubuntu 14.04 can be used very well with
it's
dea pfault Unity 3d system?
Is it as good as the old Unity 2d?
I had asked a few questions about gnome shell and I still don't
seem to
find a way around things like notifications when for example pen
drive
is inserted or wifi connection is available.
I found it rather comfortable when a pen drive just opened or
would be
available in the launcher bar.
Also the fact that favorites menu is accessible with Unity with just
alt
f1 in 14.04.
I tested the live cd and on the surface it looked pretty accessible.
I see orca's performance has also improved drastically.
But I wish to know if I can just go ahead with Unity 3d for my
production machine?
I used Sonar with gnome shell 3.6 or what ever was available on
that,
it
was based on Ubuntu 13.10.
Has Ubuntu 14.04 gnome version taken an updated gnome-shell version
than
13.10?
If yes then may be my impressions about Gnome-shell are outdated.
So could some one kindly clear my doubts?
Happy hacking
Krishnakant.
