shift left arrow select current character, more presses of shift left 
arrow select more characters.
shift right arrow select next character
shift up arrow select previous line
shift down arrow select next line
shift home select from cursor to beginning of line
shift end select from cursor to end of line
control shift home select from cursor to beginning of file
control shift end select from cursor to end of file
control shift left arrow control shift right arrow select word by word.
control c copy selected text to clipboard, control x cut text, control v 
paste text. control shift v paste text when in a terminal window.
