the message I get from speech dispatcher that must be fixed is con not connect to speech dispatcher or it isn't running, I thought orca was suppose to start it? how do I start it manuyally or see why its not connecting?

You will need to be running the Festival server in order to allow speech-dispatcher to see it. You will need to run
festival --server
either from a terminal or from another place, e.g. a startup script. If festival is started after speech-dispatcher, you may need to restart speech-dispatcher and Orca before it will show up in the list of synthesizers.
