Hi,

I need it to work with freedom scientific pacmate 40.
When I run "brltty -bfs -dusb:", the pacmate 40 just beeps once
and when I kill the brltty process it beeps again but no braille
letters pop up on the pacmate so I know it isn't working
and maybe I need to know how to run brltty for it to work
correctly with the pacmate.

Ubuntu include Orca and brltty, but maybe I misunderstand your question on how to run it in the distro?
