Re: [orca-list] trying to use Orca full-time, have some questions

Yeah you should have no problem with it. In Orca 13.10 it ships with a
new speech server called speech hub wich voxin is very easy to instal on.

Well, I'm logged into gnome as a local user and I'm logged in at the
console with my network login. I can switch back and forth with no
problems. I'm thinking of switching to sonar full time. That problem
with espeak was the one thing keeping me from upgrading from debian
squeeze. The version of orca in debian squeeze is really deficient but
at least it was stable and always worked as far as it went.

I wonder if I'm going to be able to get voxim working. The one problem
i have with espeak is that I can type faster than it can echo my
keystrokes. That doesn't happen with voxim.

That is good news I stand corrected. I will have to put up some new
images with this fix then. Thanks John!

Jonathan,

I am running this from a new sonar linux install and I have to
disagree with you... The talking console does indeed work.

# echo speakup_soft >> /etc/modules
# modprobe speakup_soft (or reboot)
# apt-get install espeakup

Sorry no I don't have that working sadly. I know it is a deal breaker
for some people but the only way it works is with the work around that
Luke has come up with. We will be taking a closer look at it with the
version of Sonar based off of Manjaro/archlinux

Hi, Jonathan,

Do you get talking console in that one?

Hello,
you might want to check out Sonar here is a link. The latest
version of
Sonar is using ubuntu 13.10 and it is running orca 3.10 here is the
link

Hi all.

I am trying to slowly but steadily use Orca full-time (for work and
for me personal use), and I'm hoping that someday I won't have to
use
the Micro$oft OS anymore.

I just have a few questions:

1. I have chosen Vinux. Do you think this is the most
screen-reader-friendly environment there is in Linux? Or is Vinux
basically the same as the regular Ubuntu environment?
2. When using Firefox, NVDA has the insert + F7 feature to list the
links on the page. Does Orca currently have the exact same feature?
I've tried to look for it but I didn't find any info on this.
3. Lastly, if you could kindly point me to the latest *and most
complete* Orca resource (shortcut keys, troubleshooting, etc), I'd
greatly appreciate it.

Thank you very much in advance, everyone.

Julius
