Re: [orca-list] working with skype

Hi,

Well put, Alex. I understand people's reasons for using free and open
source software when and where practical, but there are some
applications like Skype that really can't be replaced with a free open
source solution. I have many friends who use Windows, don't give a
hoot about open source, and they use Skype. Point being if I want to
talk with them I must be using Skype for Linux, or I'm not talking to
them because they aren't going to change to some alternative just
because I say so. :D

Who cares? Too many people use Skype around the world; people who have no
idea what "free software" is. If you want to interact with them, you have
to use Skype unless you can find something that uses that communication
protocol. And, if it does, you are still using non-free software anyway
so,
why bother? I seriously doubt you can reach your Aunt Martha or your uncle
George using Ekiga unless they are told about it and such. You can
probably
Skype them though, apps for that everywhere and clients for Skype are
available on all platforms. And, best of all, everyone's heard of it.
