Re: [orca-list] sonar and lxde

Ok, so the 'alt+tab' not speaking is a normal feature--very inconvenient when a few apps are open. Here are a few more findings from before the entire thing crashed.

I have no flat review mode in either of the terminal apps-- keys pass right through. Terminal output is not spoken, immediately, with any reliability. The power state indicator is either missing from top panel or is not spoken. Nothing in libreoffice calc is spoken; didn't try writer. Nautilus seems as accessible as in GNOME, once orca manages to get some sort of focus; try using 'super+d'; you'll see what I mean. The text editors, leafpad and gedit, are as accessible as they would be under GNOME. The media player, audacious, seems very accessible; codecs seem to be already in place; I was listening to an mp3 stream. Firefox is as accessible as in GNOME. Once I launched system monitor, I lost all speech. I could not manually start orca from either the 'run' dialogue or a terminal. When I tried to get speech from another console, nothing happened.

Yes this is my experience also.

Hi, Jonathan!

I'm running the Sonar LXDE from a thumb drive, with orca, firefox, and
a terminal open. I have changed the orca rate setting, but nothing
else; it's good the way you have it. I notice that pressing 'alt+tab'
does switch apps, but there is no announcement, while the keys are
pressed, of what app will run when they are released. When I release
the keys, a line from the previous window is spoken then the new app
takes focus. Is this normal behavior for LXDE's accessibility?

Thanks,

Hello list,

I forgot to announce this a few weeks ago. I have finished the Sonar
version using LXDE. It turned out pretty well. I have the icons on the
desktop and Nautilus is the default file manager and it is easier to
connect to a wireless network now. You just have to press alt and
control and tab to get to the top panel and it looks like the gnome
panel. Also a quick note but this is also on the quick start guide. To
start the installer after you boot press alt and control and the letter
I. This will start the installer. I also did only a 32 bit version but
it is using the pea kernel and it will notice all the RAM you have in
your computer. Here is a link to the sonar page and you can go to the
download page from there.
