Re: [orca-list] instructions for getting orca to work with xfce

Hi,

If I were to put xfce into an Ubuntu installation, would I still have to have the accessibility switch toggled on without accessibility? I'd make sure to put the export line into ~/.profile before restarting. Will xfce become a choice on the login dialogue?

Thanks, Jonathan, I'll try this with KDE as well and see if it lets my gnome

Hello list,

here is how to set up xfce and Orca.

You will need sighted help for these first few steps.

First you must be using xfce 4.10
Then you will have to install these packages sudo apt-get install gnome-orca
libgail-common nautilus

Now you will have to check the accessibility box in the settings manager.

After this you will have to open this file in your favorite text editor

~/.bashrc

Go the the end of the file and enter this

GTK_MODULES=gail:atk-bridge

Save this file now.

Now restart and log back in and you will have a pretty accessible xfce
desktop.

The only other thing that is a problem is the panel but that isn't a show
stopper.
