That's a good question. I don't use any self-voicing apps in Linux other
than Emacspeak and that one, I use from the console with speakup toggled off
with numpad insert + numpad enter. Emacspeak doesn't use speech dispatcher
and I use espeakup these days in console leaving speech dispatcher for
Orca's exclusive use so this situation never comes up for me.

Hi,
I use a self-voicing game that seems to peacefully coexist with orca.
When the game puts up a dialogue, it and orca both speak it. I don't know
whether the game and orca share an instance of speech dispatcher, or maybe
the game launches its own?

I think you would go into the orca preferences for chromeand turn
speech off. How are other self-voicing apps dealt with by Orca?

hi alex,
i wonder how chromevox behaves when orca also wants to talk on that
dispatcher and chromevox too.
guess you need, as also on windows, disable the screenreader you are
using while chromevox is active which i don't think is a nice idea to deal
with.

Why are you hung up on them? Perhaps, it's time to explore other
alternatives. Have you had any luck with Sylpheed and Clausemail?
for browsers, I recently read an update that Chromevox was making
strides in usability. It now uses speech dispatcher which allegedly
makes it easier to configure and install. Firefox is nice but, it's
not the only browser. Same can be said of Thunderbird. Unless, of
course, the state of the competing e-mail clients is as inaccessible
as Evolution.
On another note, what are you using for a text editor in your setup?
Have you had any luck with Leafpad? I tried it and ran into hitches
with getting it to read what I typed. I had to go into orca
preferences and have ot track things like justification and
indentation (don't have the preferences dialog handy right now to be
completely accurate). Only after I set all that stuff to on did it
read what I'd typed and it was a bit clunky besides. This was before
all the xfce 4.10 stuff came out so, I'm hoping it works better now.

Hello list,
Here is my update with xfce and Orca. i'm so cloase to being done
and having everything accessible. There are two programs holding me
back
from being done. Firefox and Thunderbird. I have no idea of why
these
two programs are not accessible. i've even downloaded firefox and
thunderbird from mozilla and even these weren't accessible. If
anyone has any ideas please let me know.
