Re: [orca-list] so cloase with xfce and orca

The current version of ChromeVox doesn't use speech dispatcher.
Apparently that's in an upcoming version.

Right now, I use ChromeVox with a TTS from Google, and I'm never tempted
to turn off speech in Orca while using ChromeVox. Orca doesn't read the
same text that ChromeVox reads, and there are some menus and dialogs
that ChromeVox doesn't read, so I actually want to use them in tandem.
I'm not sure how much this will change if you're using ChromeVox with
speech dispatcher.

Although I use ChromeVox quite a bit, I wouldn't want to lose access to
Firefox. Using Chrome and ChromeVox means learning a new browser and a
new screen reader, which behaves quite a bit differently from Orca.
Plus, as whenever you have a choice, there are some web pages that I
just prefer to use with Firefox and Orca.

I think you would go into the orca preferences for chromeand turn speech

hi alex,

i wonder how chromevox behaves when orca also wants to talk on that
dispatcher and chromevox too.
guess you need, as also on windows, disable the screenreader you are using
while chromevox is active which i don't think is a nice idea to deal with.

greetings,
simon

Why are you hung up on them? Perhaps, it's time to explore other
alternatives. Have you had any luck with Sylpheed and Clausemail?
for browsers, I recently read an update that Chromevox was making
strides in usability. It now uses speech dispatcher which allegedly
makes it easier to configure and install. Firefox is nice but, it's
not the only browser. Same can be said of Thunderbird. Unless, of
course, the state of the competing e-mail clients is as inaccessible
as Evolution.

On another note, what are you using for a text editor in your setup?
Have you had any luck with Leafpad? I tried it and ran into hitches
with getting it to read what I typed. I had to go into orca
preferences and have ot track things like justification and
indentation (don't have the preferences dialog handy right now to be
completely accurate). Only after I set all that stuff to on did it
read what I'd typed and it was a bit clunky besides. This was before
all the xfce 4.10 stuff came out so, I'm hoping it works better now.

Hello list,

Here is my update with xfce and Orca. i'm so cloase to being done and
having everything accessible. There are two programs holding me back
from being done. Firefox and Thunderbird. I have no idea of why these
two programs are not accessible. i've even downloaded firefox and
thunderbird from mozilla and even these weren't accessible. If anyone
has any ideas please let me know.
